How To: Add FTP proxy support to NetNow! 5

Doc No. 000491
Product NetNow 5
Category Installation

Issue
When you install NetNow 5, you do not automatically add the new FTP service and get total FTP support.

Please note, you will only use this FTP service for true FTP clients and/or Download managers, e.g. GoZilla (http://www.gozilla.com) or GetRight (http://www.getright.com).

To download files using a web browser, ensure the web browser proxy configuration is going through to the same Web Proxy port (typically port 8080).

NetNow 5 now incorporates a HTTP to FTP gateway which allows this to work. This technique will not work with NetNow 3

Solution
Go to the NetNow console, and go to Options->Services. Click Add to Add File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

Extras
Enable the FTP Proxy option then click on the now enabled Proxy tab, to configure the behaviour of the FTP Proxy.

Require User Authentication
Enable this option to prevent clients using anonymous login from accessing the Internet via this proxy service.

Allow Dial-up for Remote Sites
If this option is checked NetNow! connects to the Internet. Click on Dialup Settings to display how NetNow! should connect and disconnect to/from the Internet. Then click OK to finish configuration of the FTP service. Finally restart the NetNow server or go to Tools->Start Service->FTP
