After exhaustive evaluation and testing against many of the best names in the industry, RedRock's internet connectivity software, NetNow! was selected by Compaq as part of the new Compaq Services Network announced in August 1999.

At the heart of the Compaq Services Network is the Compaq Remote Gateway, a web-based system for managing relationships, incorporating support tools that enable members of the Compaq Services Network to complete various transactions efficiently through the Internet.

Compaq Remote Gateway uses NetNow! to receive event notification from customers, logs it
and makes the service provider aware of the fact that one of their customers is having a
problem or a potential problem so that they can take action quickly.

Compaq Project Leader, Larry Emlich explains:

"We use the SMTP server component of NetNow! to receive email from customer sites. The email is generated automatically when the remote customer wishes to register with our gateway and when a problem is detected. The gateway administrator may use the POP3 component of NetNow! to collect this email in folders in an email client such as Outlook or Outlook Express (or Eudora, etc). The administrator may also manage email retention by utilizing the NetNow! 'Message expiry' feature. Finally, the gateway uses the SMTP server component of NetNow! to distribute alert messages. Compared with other products I evaluated; NetNow! had a superior GUI, was simple to install and configure, had a more powerful scripting language, the best documentation, and the most helpful people."
